Our new house has everything I could have ever asked for plus some. The only thing that’s missing is a stove. Of course I didn’t mind buying a new one, but having to wait weeks for it to arrive has been especially difficult. Thankfully I have a Weber grill that has done an excellent job as a stand in. (Be sure to read on how you can win one for yourself!) Not only does grilling make food taste better, it’s also a great way to get outdoors as a family and create some fun new dishes! One of my most recent favorites is this Zesty Jalapeño Relish using flavorful Mezzetta peppers! I like to serve it atop organic hot dogs nestled in soft bakery buns. Not a hot dog fan? It also pairs well with burgers and even grilled fish!
You may remember my Mezzetta Colossal Italian Hero Sandwich from last summer which was a huge hit (my mouth is watering just thinking about it!). This year I kicked it up a notch by creating a Zesty Jalapeño relish recipe that use Mezzetta Roasted Bell Peppers, their Tamed Jalapeño peppers, pickles, sweet onion and a little brown sugar. There is also a little fresh dill in there for good measure. Since the majority of my kitchen stuff is still packed up, I wanted to make something that was easy and didn’t require too many dishes or pans. Actually, all you need to make this is a knife, a cutting board and a bowl!
This Zesty Jalapeño Relish is super quick to put together and gets even better with age. If you make it the day before, it will give the flavors plenty of time to meld together for the perfect cookout condiment. The recipe is also easily adaptable no matter if you’re serving two or twenty and the best part is that Mezzetta Peppers are so easy to find.
If you’re anything like me, you like your hot dogs well done (by well done, I mean practically burnt). When my dad would cook ‘dogs on the grill, I made sure I was first in line so I could get the crispiest one. I love the way this Zesty Jalapeño Relish makes them even more crunchy and also adds a touch of sweetness.

- 3/4 cup Mezzetta Deli Sliced Tamed Jalapeño Peppers, diced
- 3 tablespoons Mezzetta Roasted Bell Peppers, diced
- 1/2 cup dill pickles, diced
- 1/2 of a Vidalia onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, minced
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- pinch celery salt
- fresh ground pepper, to taste
- Mix everything in a bowl and serve atop hamburgers, hot dogs, or grilled fish.
- Let relish sit overnight in the fridge to allow the flavors to develop even more.
